In this course students will be introduced to the fascinating ancient traditions of wooden architecture throughout the East Asian cultural sphere. We will explore the historical development, diversity of wooden building typologies and highly sophisticated construction techniques such as Dougong bracket sets. Furthermore, we will learn about the different philosophies and aesthetic concepts behind traditional East Asian residential architectures and their interior designs.
The course will also include practical model making and intended excursion to the Gärten der Welt in Berlin-Marzahn, where we will explore different East Asian gardening traditions.
